Each household on the Island produces about one tonne of waste each year. That's a thousand kg's of paper, food and garden waste, plastic, cardboard, glass and metal. Reusing or recycling our 'waste' will help reduce the amount we have left to manage. However if we haven't got the waste in the first place it won't be a problem!
Top of the waste hierarchy (different ways we manage waste) is Reduce. There are many ways householders on the Island can reduce or prevent making waste - these are set out on the following web pages.
